Google has confirmed the changes by announcing: “If you have been inactive for 2 years (24 months) on Gmail, Drive or Photos, we may delete the content on the product (s) you have been inactive on. If your storage exceeds 2 years, we may delete your content across Gmail, Drive and Photos.”
Google points out that June 21, 2023 is the day anyone removes their content. The new rules will not take effect until June 2021, and consumers will have two years to comply.
This new inactive policy will not affect Google One members who have a good storage or good quality.
The email comes shortly after Google announced another major change to its Google Photo storage plans. Five years after offering users a full photo genuine photo backup in a compressed “high quality” format, Google Photos will start charging for storage plans as soon as users fill out the generic 15GB allowance available on all Google Accounts.
